Getting Involved
Newsletter Editor
We publish a monthly newsletter that gets emailed out to our members, investors, prospects and associates and snail mailed to members who don't have email. It is currently created in Word but there are many other programs that work as well if not better. We'd like someone who is computer literate and feels comfortable working on their own with some collaboration with board members. Many online resources are available for articles. Although this newsletter is currently two pages we'd love for the next editor to build it up to something bigger. Please contact Denise by email or phone 712-830-1125.
Local Foods Committee
We're looking for a few people who will create and present to the board for adoption a definition of local (either in words or graphically, or both) and begin creating a list of producers. This list will not only be helpful to our current membership but will also help our GM and staff when setting up contracts to purchase local products.
Membership Committee
The most important aspect of this project is building a strong membership base. We would like to thank our Founding 150 Members. Your are the cornetestone to this coop! Now we enter Phase II in which we need to get 350 more members. We'd like our membership committee to not only be out there talking to the public, but we'd like them to research opportunities that we can promote Community Market, whether that's through tabling at an event, speaking to a group, making a presentation or holding our own meetings/events.
Our membership committee is the key to our success!
Promoting Community Market Cooperative
Each member can do their part to promote this project and bring in more members. As recently mentioned in our newsletter, there are some things that everyone can do that will help us build up our membership base.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local paper explaining why you support CMC. Remember to include our contact info.
- Buy a Gift Membership for someone who can’t afford it.
- Talk to your friends, neighbors and other family members and sign them up.
- Make a commitment to sign up at least one person within the next month
- Notify us of upcoming events that we may have an informational table.
Public speaking and in the media
Would you like your group to know more about our efforts, healthy eating or how to support local producers? Invite one or more board members to your next gathering and we'll talk to your group about all or any of these topics. Email us with your request and we'll get back to you.
Although we are doing some advertising, we really rely on word of mouth. We would love it if you would write a letter to the editor of your local paper promoting our efforts and explaining why buying local food is important to our economy.
